I've been digging into the new Sierra EV Denali and Silverado RST, and I’ve noticed some discrepancies. The Denali is pricier (by about $2.6k), but it looks like it actually has lower payload and towing capacities in the Extended Range setup. And oddly enough, the EPA ranges are the same across the board. Anyone have any thoughts on why this is? Is it a mistake, or is there some other reason for this?

Could be a GM marketing play to differentiate the two trucks. The Denali’s meant to appeal to buyers looking for a luxury EV truck, while the Silverado RST might target folks who prioritize capability over comfort. It’s interesting, though, because you’d think a pricier truck would have better or at least equal towing/payload numbers. Maybe there’s an engineering reason tied to how they’re specced out.

One theory is that the extra features in the Denali add weight, which affects its towing and payload capacities. Lower capacities might also be tied to differences in suspension tuning or weight distribution to improve ride comfort. The EPA range being identical is puzzling, though, it makes me wonder if GM uses the same testing parameters for both.

Oh, that makes sense, the added weight for luxury features could definitely impact the Denali’s numbers. The suspension theory is interesting too, considering how much attention to ride quality is a selling point for the Denali. But yeah, the same EPA range is a head-scratcher. I wonder if the powertrains are actually the same and it’s just the marketing that’s trying to create differentiation.
