I just got my Sierra EV, and wow, it’s an incredible truck! The tech is seriously impressive (the infotainment screen, Google Built-In, SuperCruise), and it drives like a dream. Parking it in my apartment’s standard underground spot is another story, but that’s a challenge for my wife to master.
The main issue is charging at my apartment complex. My spot has a Tesla Wall Charger (rated at 11.2 kW Level 2 charging), and I’m using a NACS to J1772 adapter (theoretically 250 V x 80 A). I’m running into two problems:
The cost: It’s $0.50/kWh during the day here in my area. Is that normal for Level 2 charging? At that rate, filling up my 205 kWh battery is over $100 for ~440 miles. Honestly, that’s close to what I was paying to fuel my Porsche Panamera on premium gas. Does Tesla set this price, or is it my landlord? I’m not sure who to ask about it.
Charging speed: It’s only charging at 6 kW, according to both the Tesla app and my truck’s screen. I thought I’d be getting closer to 11 kW with this setup. My SoC started at 56%, but I thought Level 2 charging was supposed to stay relatively linear regardless of battery percentage. Any ideas on why it’s so slow? Is it the adapter, the charger, or maybe something with the building’s wiring?
Is there something I should check with my landlord or the charger itself? I’m pretty new to EV ownership, so any advice is appreciated!
